There are so many YouTube channel ideas for students.

How To Make A YouTube Channel

Making a YouTube channel is very easy.

The whole process of creating one only takes 2-3 minutes.

Check out the how to create a YouTube channel guide to get started.

The biggest thing to remember is you must be 13 to start a YouTube channel and you must have your parent’s permission if you’re under 17-years-old.

YouTube is very strict with this policy, and if they find out you are under 13, you will get banned from using the website.

Here are some popular YouTube channel ideas for students.

There are lots more, but I thought we’d narrow it down to eight to make the list easy to read and easy to get started.

Alright, let’s get to it.

Gaming Channel

Some pretty popular YouTubers are gamers.

PEWDIEPIE, JUEGAGERMAN, and  ELRUBIUSOMG are just some of the most popular gaming YouTubers, with their gaming channels having millions of subscribers.

There are so many popular video games out there, and kids love to search for some video game walk-throughs, cheats, hacks, and how-tos on YouTube videos.

The most popular game on YouTube right now is The League of Legends.

But there are videos for Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox.

If you like to play video games in your spare time, stream yourself playing on YouTube and watch the views roll in.

Most gaming channels do voice-overs as they play, so you’ll need a good gaming headset like this one that my kids use and love.

Grab a comfy gaming chair and start streaming.

Life Hacks Channel

Everyone loves a good hack.

A life hack channel would definitely fall into the YouTube channel ideas for money category.

Think of things that you do to save yourself time on everyday tasks.

Then search the internet for different hacks that will make people’s lives easier.

Hacks can be a simple or as complex as you want them to be.

However, in my experience, simple, easy-to-do hacks have a better chance of going viral.

And channels with viral videos grow faster.

So my recommendation would be to have a good mix of easy and medium-level hacks for people.

This type of YouTube channel may require a little more time to create and you’ll need some basic video editing skills.

Once you know the type of hacks you want to do, you can jump in and get started.

Vlogging Channel

Vlogging is pretty much taping your life and talking about it.

Blogs were all the rage in the early 2000s.

Everyone had one, and they shared their day, travels, exciting experiences, and more.

Although blogs are still pretty popular, vlogging is just as popular, and most vlogs are quick, maybe 5-6 minutes, making them easy to make!

As a student, you can talk about things that other students can relate to.

Here are a few student vlogging ideas:

  • Get ready for school with me
  • After school routine
  • Desk and homework station setup

You don’t have to limit yourself to just talking about school related topics, either.

Even as a student, you have a life outside of school that you could vlog about.

Vlog about sports, fun clubs you’re apart of or jobs you do.

The good thing about vlogging is you can record anything.

Unboxing Channel

Yes, you read that correctly.

Kids’ YouTube searches are full of unboxing videos.

Unboxing is where someone opens a new item straight from the box like toys, makeup, or even new tools.

If you do a quick unboxing video Google search, you’ll even find tons of videos on how to make the perfect unboxing video and other tips.

It must be something about seeing all the extra items and what is included in the product that draws people in.

This channel would require some upfront money to purchase the items that you’ll be unboxing, but if you start with things you are already going to purchase, that can help keep costs down.

I especially think this is one of the best YouTube channel ideas for students in particular because it doesn’t require a whole lot of extra time.

As student you’re already busy enough with classes, homework, sports, clubs, friends, maybe even a job, so being able to record yourself opening a package and giving a brief commentary about it won’t cut into your life too much.

Cooking Channel

If starting a channel with younger children, cooking videos would make great content.

Start off with simple recipes that other young kids would enjoy making and trying with their parent.

It’s a great way to show others how to get young kids involved in the kitchen.

If you’re a high school or college student, make videos using items all high school and college kids live off of, like ramen noodles, mac and cheese, and other quick dorm room specials.

To make your channel stand out (cause who wants to just watch someone make videos about making plain plain old ramen?), spice up the recipes and add extra ingredients to otherwise boring meals.

Add shrimp to the ramen.

Experiment with different cheeses in the mac and cheese.

Think of things that others haven’t and your videos just might go viral!

Style Channel

If you are into fashion and always watching the runway, then a style channel may be for you.

There are so many different directions a style channel could go.

You can stick with a specific company and review their clothing.

Did the clothes fit as expected?

Did they look completely different in person? Etc.

You could take it in a different direction and review the styles of celebrities or show people how to get a celebrity look for cheaper.

A style channel is another great way to make money off of YouTube as a student.

Once your channel gains some notoriety, you may even get clothing and beauty brands that want to send you their clothes for free so you can review them for your audience.

What student wouldn’t want free clothes?!

Story Read Aloud Channel

All kids love listening to stories online, and creating a read-aloud channel is a great way to reach this niche.

You can choose to read picture books or break chapter books into separate video content.

Many YouTubers who read aloud even hire someone to create animations to go along with the story as they read.

Teachers often use these types of videos in their classroom if they do not have the book available to them or if they are looking for an easy video to play during snack time or at the end of the day.

Teachers are a great audience to have because they often recommend well-made videos and content to other teachers allowing your channel to grow!

Again, I highly recommend this channel type for students because it doesn’t require a lot of extra time.

Student YouTube Channel Ideas

Creating a YouTube channel is a lot of work.

You must create the channel, plan the content, go through the upload process, and promote it.

Even after doing all of these steps, it is not guaranteed your YouTube channels will be a success and for a student who has a lot on their plate, that can be discouraging.

But don’t give up.

There are so many successful YouTube channels out there.

If others are able to make content that people want to watch, then you can, too.
