When is the best time to introduce solids to a baby?
The next question you may have will probably be, “Is my baby ready to start solid foods?”
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is not recommended that babies start solids until between 4 months and 6 months old.
This doesn’t mean you have to give your baby solids at this age, it just means starting solids before this age might not be a good idea for a number of reasons.
When introducing solids, it is also recommended that you introduce one food at a time. This is so that you’ll be able to tell if your baby has any allergies or food sensitivities.
Check for signs such as diarrhea, rashes or vomiting. If any of these symptoms show up after giving baby a new food, you should stop serving it immediately and contact your baby’s doctor.
If you’ve introduced a new food and there are no symptoms after 2-3 days, you can introduce another.

- Can your baby sit with her head unsupported?

How to store homemade baby food
Once your homemade baby food has been prepared and baby has eaten, you’ll need to store the rest for later use.
Making baby food in bulk is a great way to save time. By preparing several days’ worth at once, you’ll be able to grab food from the fridge easily for a few days before having to make more.
If you prepare for several days at a time, be sure to have containers on hand for storage.
You may also consider making a large batch of baby food and freezing some for later use.
This will save even more time in the future. In order to do this, you will prep the food, cook it, and instead of refrigerating it to be eaten in a few days, you’ll store it in freezer-safe containers.
Single serve portions are best so it’s easy to only grab what you need from the freezer without having to thaw the whole batch.
Once prepared, simply spoon the food into freezer trays and put them into the freezer. After the food is frozen, pop each cube of food out and put them all in a labeled freezer bag.
When baby’s ready to eat, you can grab however many cubes of food you need without having to thaw all the food at once.

Although it is not recommended to use squeeze pouches for every meal, the occasional snack from a squeeze pouch certainly won’t hurt when baby is old enough.

How long can baby food be stored?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends storing homemade baby food in the refrigerator for no longer than 48 hours and in the freezer for up to 4 months. This is to keep baby’s exposure to bacteria to a minimum.
The important thing to remember when storing homemade baby food is to make sure it is sealed properly. You should use air-tight containers that are made for the area that they will be stored.
